The Jean Marie Cardinell Chapter, NSDAR, is honored to have our own member, Edith Harris Brunia, elected to the highest office in the state. Edith has been a dedicated DAR member since 2007. Edith has ten American Revolution Patriots. She has served in many elected and appointed roles. She served as State Vice Regent from 2020-2022, State Treasurer 2018-2020, Chapter Regent 2012-2014 and Chapter Vice Regent 2010-2012. She was appointed by the NSDAR President General to the NSDAR Insignia Board. She was State Co-Chair of the President General's Project, State Chair Chapter Achievement Awards, State Chair Literacy Promotion, and State Chair Constitution Week. In addition to chairmanships and offices, Edith has been a delegate to Continental Congress six times, was a member of the National DAR Chorus, attended the ISDAR State Conference every year since 2008 as a delegate, assisted with Southwest District Director duties, and was co-chair of the ISDAR Bus Tour in 2018-2020 and 2020-2022. Edith has supported C.A.R. over the years as a Life Promotor, Great Plains Regional Meeting Patron, Iowa C.A.R. Conference Patron and Iowa C.A.R. Booster. Edith served as an organizer of the Chapter's 75th Anniversary and researched, wrote and published an extensive history of the Jean Marie Cardinell Chapter since its beginning in 1941. Edith has contributed to a number of essay contests and chapter programs. Edith is an Associate Member of two other chapters. Edith has completed the Volunteer Field Genealogy, Members, New Horizons and Committee Leaders Courses. In 2016 Edith became a Life Member of NSDAR. Edith's contributions have earned her Heritage Club classification and promotion to Pearl and Ruby levels.
Edith graduated from North Central Missouri College with a B.A. degree in History, Geography and Library Science. Edith and her husband owned and managed a business in Des Moines and they have four children. Edith has been active in her community serving on all the offices but one for Warren County Farm Bureau including two years as President, serving on Northern Warren Fire Department and North River Cemetery Association Board.
There is more to this woman's resume -- but this captures her dedication to service, passion for American history, patriotism and love of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The Jean Marie Cardinell Chapter, NSDAR, is proud of our own member and the Iowa Society DAR is lucky to have her leadership.
Onward and upward Mrs. Brunia!!!!
